What does it mean to learn social studies? The new History and Social Science Standards shift the teaching of social studies from learning a checklist of people, places, and events to teaching students how to think and do the work of historians, geographers, economists, and political scientists. Inquiry is at the heart of social studies practice in these new standards. After an overview of the new standards, participants will experience an inquiry-based lesson in order to understand the major instruction shifts from the 2005 standards to the 2018 standards.

Outcomes

·         Participants will become familiar with the 2018 History and Social Science Standards.

·         Participants will examine major shifts in the standards and how they will impact curriculum and instruction.

·         Participants will partake in a model inquiry.

Location: Arizona K12 Center Professional Learning Center (99 E Virginia Avenue, Suite 150 | Phoenix, AZ)
