Principal Leadership Academy II

School administrators navigate the dynamic complexities and subtleties of their schools every day. They promote, facilitate, and lead efforts to achieve both tangible and intangible results throughout the school community. Their roles are crucial for school and student success. This course will provide district and school administrators with the depth of learning and coaching skills needed to bring the critical functions of instructional leadership to life. Participants will focus on the following topics in the workshops throughout the year:

•  Developing into a successful instructional leader
•  Understanding effective observation and feedback practices
•  Aligning instruction to educator effectiveness tools
•  Expanding skills and strategies for working with adult learners
•  Prepping and supporting teacher practice that leads to student learning
•  Creating an instructional leadership plan to propel the work forward

DAY 1 ONSITE:  Administrators as Instructional Coaches (September 8, 2023)

Engaged principals are key to a successful coaching program. According to Jim Knight, ”When teachers receive the appropriate amount of support for professional learning, more than 90% of them embrace and implement changes that improve students’ experiences in the classroom.”(p.4) The majority of this support comes from administrators.

DAY 2 ONSITE:  Difficult Conversations – Tools for Talking When The Stakes Are High (November 16, 2023)

Critical Conversations often fall closely on the heels of coaching practices, yet we sometimes dread a difficult and challenging exchange. Learning how to master these dialogues is one of the most important skills we can master.

DAY 3 ONSITE: Deeper Dive into Observation & Feedback Practices (December 6, 2023)

The final day will connect our learning from PLA I  with our new learning in PLA II. We’ll return to the topics of Observation & feedback and PLCs and take another lap around the field, connecting these practices with coaching and looking at them through the frame of time management.
